BSR PPC tuning unit

Preface

This document gives a short introduction to the BSR PPC tuning unit. There is also photographs to give a peek inside the PPC enclosure. I'll later explain how the unit works.

The outer enclosure

There are five pozidriv screws that hold the enclosure together. One of the screws is behind a sticker that says 'WARNING Warranty will be void if label is removed. www.ppc-tuning.com'. Doesn't hold me back, as you could imagine. On the front side there are two buttons and a 2 row 16 character LCD display with a blue backlight. On the top side there's a RJ45 connector for the OBD-II cable and a USB connector for a PC. On the bottom side there's a slot for a MMC memory card.

Inside the enclosure

After opening the enclosure there's a relatively simple circuit board with ICs, resistors, capacitors and a few connectors. The main processor is a Microchip PIC18F458-I/PT. There's also a USB-to-parallel bridge, FT245BL, from FTDI. The 19 pin SOIC chip on the right is a stand-alone CAN controller, Microchip MCP2515. Below the FDTI chip is a Microchip 93C46BI Serial EEPROM. Now here's what's inside in pictures.
